Gathering at Cowal
September 2006

A chance meeting with two honeymooning artists had resulted in an invitation to send two of my photographs for Cowalfest's first-ever Windowshoppers Gallery. I was sufficiently intrigued to follow my pictures and learn more about the event...

A Brief Glimpse of Canna
May 2006

A small colony of eider ducks inhabits Canna harbour. They sound constantly surprised: "Aah…oooh…" I felt much that way myself during the three days I spent on the island in May 2005. It started the moment I set foot on the pier...

Marion MacPhee, printmaker
January 2006

This delightful and talented Skye printmaker celebrates the ancient myths and legends of her native environment through her work. Several hours in her company left me inspired by her determination and enthusiasm - and of course with some photographs and a story!

Focus on Ffordes
August 2005

A photographer visits a photographers' paradise. You can read the words and see the pictures here.

Art For All
May 2005

May is the month of the annual Skye and Lochalsh Studio Trails, when a selection of artists and craftworkers open their studios and workshops to visitors. My article about the event featured five individual Trails' participants.

Am Baile: the Gaelic Village
March 2005

I visited the team behind this online archive, and the resulting article was published together with photographs from Am Baile's collection. You can also link to their website - it's well worth a visit!

Education on the Edge
October 2004

I spent a wonderful day with the children and staff of Elgol Primary School in Skye. It was a privilege to be a "fly on the wall" with my camera for the day.

The online article is illustrated by some of the scenery that provides the stunning backdrop to the Elgol pupils' education. I'm afraid that - with child safety in mind - no photographs of the children appear on the website, though they were certainly the real stars of the feature.

Food for Thought
September 2004

An illustrated feature about Lady Claire Macdonald, the well-known cookery writer. I was invited to join one of her cookery demonstrations at Kinloch Lodge and, despite my own seriously limited abilities in the kitchen, I had a fascinating visit.

Reflections of Rona
March 2004

The Island of South Rona lies in the Sound of Raasay, between the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland. After a week spent exploring the island, I produced this illustrated article.

Keeping Art Afloat
November 2003

This illustrated feature profiles Skye artist Hermione Lamond, who combines art with craft and produces painted fishing floats.
